Grand Lodge of Honduras
The Grand Lodge of Honduras is recognized by the United Grand Lodge of England as the regular Masonic authority in Honduras. Established on May 15, 1922, it was founded by three lodges then operating in the republic: Igualdad No. 1 in Tegucigalpa (established with a charter dated July 21, 1911, and installed on November 15, 1911), Eureka No. 2 in San Pedro Sula, and Agustín Disdier in La Ceiba.
The grand lodge is headquartered in San Pedro Sula, the country’s industrial capital and largest commercial center. Honduras Masonry has operated through a challenging environment shaped by the country’s political history, but the grand lodge has maintained its institutional continuity and its fraternal relationships with other Central American grand lodges. Honduras is a member of the Confederación Masónica Centroamericana y el Caribe (COMACA) and the Confederación Masónica Interamericana. The lodge community in Honduras is relatively small, with approximately a dozen active lodges concentrated in San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa, but tightly knit, and visiting Masons from UGLE-recognized jurisdictions are welcomed.
Honduras’s lodge community, though small, has maintained continuous operation and UGLE recognition since the grand lodge’s founding in 1922. The fraternity operates in a country that has faced significant challenges including political instability, narco-trafficking, and high levels of emigration, all of which have affected the social fabric and institutional life of the country.
The Grand Lodge is headquartered in San Pedro Sula (Honduras’s largest city, its industrial capital, and its commercial center) rather than in Tegucigalpa, the political capital. San Pedro Sula’s position as an economic hub and transportation center has made it the natural institutional home for the fraternity.
